I had the chance to meet up with an awesome group of girls a few weeks back for the first round of year 12 mini-sessions for 2012, and we played around with some fun locations and ideas. I’m finally getting around to blogging them! This first set is from Annie Jane’s session, where we had fun incorporating her love of ballet into the shoot.

Amie & Josh :: {engaged}

He was the cute guy behind the counter at the butchers shop. She was the shy teenager coming in with her parents. Then one night, they were out with their friends, and a mutual friend called out. “Hey!” And the rest, as they say, is history. I caught up with Amie & Josh in Moree recently for their engagement session, and they are just so cute together. We went for a bit of a drive to check out spots for their wedding photos, and then I dusted off the camera and we shot some photos to remind them of this special time in their lives. I’m really looked forward to shooting their wedding in Moree in September, listening to Amie talk about her plans, it sounds like it will be awesome!

Simon & Kim :: {engagement}

With the harvest complete, Kim and Simon were ready to hit the road and make the long trek from Kim’s hometown of Moree, to Wagga, where they now live. We’d been back and forth trying to get a time that worked for me to head out to Moree, but instead we decided to shoot their engagement session in Inverell. I’m really looking forward to photographing their wedding in Moree in January, they are such a sweet couple, and I am bursting with ideas for their photos!

an orchard, a ballgown and an idea…

So after Brahe’s maternity shoot, and another family portrait session (yet to be blogged), on a rainy Saturday a month or so ago, you’d think I’d be feeling confident and ready to embrace the rain that had threatened all morning. But we had something else in the works. We watched the sky anxiously, and as the clouds grew darker, we brought forward a shoot planned for that afternoon – a collaboration between myself, my wonderful makeup artist and stylist Jasmine and our favourite model Steph. The dress we’d procured from eBay hanging in the doorway, taunting us with the potential for all out efforts to be wasted. Then, magically, the sky cleared, and we all breathed a sigh of relief….only to worry again when the clouds gathered once more! Makeup complete, dress on and we hit the road. To be met by a roadblock. So around the long way we went, loosing precious dry moments. Arriving at the orchard, we quickly set to work, and had a blast creating some fun images, “just because”.

Maddie :: {children’s portraits}

A couple of weeks ago, I met up with Haley and Tim in Inverell to photograph their beautiful baby girl Maddie. At 18 months, she was a great age for having her own little photoshoot, or so we thought! I think she had a fair idea of what we wanted, and she was determined to make us work for it! But when your job means hanging out with a little one this cute, I was happy to oblige!

One of the best parts of doing what I do, is watching and capturing the way a family grows and evolves. Like the family of this young chap:

From big brother Tommy’s 6 month portraits, and more recently, Kate’s lifestyle maternity shoot, now it’s little Andy’s turn to star in some photos of his own.

I don’t noramlyy share the out-takes, but this one cracks me up so much, I can’t help it. It doesn’t help that I was quite low to the ground for this one, and while Savannah distracted us all attempting to lick baby Andy, her partner in crime saw an opportunity – apparently my ear was just too tempting, as I discovered when it was attacked by a warn west nose!

summerblossom concept shoot

A while back, I submitted a couple of concepts to a competition run by Summerblossom Handmade Accessories via their Facebook page. I was thrilled when a little email popped up informing me I’d been selected as one of the ten finalists.

After much postie-stalking, a gorgeous little package arrived in my mailbox. I slowly unwrapped the tissue paper, and there in my hand were two beautiful (and beautifully made) Summerblossom hair pins.

The last details pulled together, Steph and I headed out to our location, and we had a blast shooting some images for the competition. {class of 2011} :: {grace}

I got to hang with Grace on Saturday. We laughed, we chatted. We talked about school and work and the future. In between, we shot some photos.

Grace’s session was part of my mini-sessions project. For Year 12 students, a mini-session package is a great way to mark the milestone that is finishing school, and is often the last lot of professional portraits you may get taken before getting married. What a great way to start off your post-school life! I will be regularly running sessions throughout 2011 in Inverell, and am also happy to travel to Glen Innes, Moree, Tenterfield and throughout the Northern NSW/New England area. The next round of mini-sessions will be held on Wednesday, April 13 (the first Wednesday of the school holidays). I see you, watching me, watching you…

Just before Christmas, I met up with a bunch of cute little people and their mum & dad to capture some family portraits. I wanted to do something fun, and being part way through a vintange camera Advent photo challenge, I brought along my little Brownie Starlet (circa 1950′s), and we had a play.

Sometime though, the best props are the spontaneous ones, like a piece of bark as a moustache. Smooth, little dude, very smooth.

And little mister watched the goings-on from his safe perch high up in daddy’s arms, wondering what all the fuss was about. Din;t you just want to smmoch those gorgeous little cheeks!
