Melanie :: {maternity}

It was already steamy as we headed out of Inverell toward Moree at 8.30am. 27 outside, so my car delighted in telling me. By the time we arrived and I got to Melanie’s place, it was well over thirty and rising. But Melanie was a trooper, and despite the heat, we had a great time capturing some beautiful maternity portraits.

Brahe :: {maternity}

The first of three sessions scheduled last Saturday, Brahe’s maternity session was one of those “watch the sky and hold your breath” type of shoots. Rain had been predicted for Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and when Friday afternoon was still dry and blue-skyed, I was sure we’d gotten away with it. Well, that was, until I woke at 3am Saturday morning to hear the roof being pummelled with rain. But thankfully, by morning it had stopped, and our session was able to go ahead. Somewhat damp, but still. And we even had a few brief sightings of blue sky!

I would have to say that lifestyle sessions are some of my favourite to shoot. I love the real-ness – capturing the moments as they happen, showing life as it is, right now. Recently, I got the chance to shoot a lifestyle maternity session with a dear friend of mine, expecting her second child. We had a wonderful morning, just hanging out and chatting, having a coffee, and playing with her adorable little boy.

Lifestyle sessions are a great way to capture life as it happens, without needing any reason greater than craeting memories for the future. Often family portraits are organised to tie-in with a milestone – a birthday, an anniversary, Christmas. A more relaxed lifestyle session is perfect for in between, “just because”. If you are interested in a lifestyle session for your family, children, baby or to celebrate your pregnancy, I’d love to hear from you! A new chapter…

A new baby is always exciting, be they a first baby or a fifth. There is something about the innocence, the freshness, the potential of these new little people that never ceases to amaze me. And there is a special joy in photographing a mother expecting a younger sibling for their children – seeing the excitement on the children’s faces, the shy pride as they let me in on the secret that mummy has a baby in her tummy.

On Saturday, I had the pleasure of shooting some maternity portraits for Megan, and little Miss Two wasn’t quite sure of me at first, but it didn’t take long and she was posing for the camera like  pro!

(as a side note, it’s a good idea to take the camera off high speed action mode before inviting the two year old to “press that button there” – let’s just say it’s a good thing I wasn’t shooting with my film camera!)

Megan has a cute little “basketball” belly – so neat and round!

Big sister showing me where baby is – just in case I wasn’t sure!

Thanks for having me around Megan, I look forward to meeting the little person hiding in there in a few weeks!
