Holding tight, letting go.

August 26, 2009

One of the things I love most about photography is the ability to freeze a moment in time. To distill a memory into tangible form. Something to be looked at, reminisced over, laughter & tears relived. So when a very dear friend of mine announced she was moving away, I was deeply touched to be commissioned to provide her and her family with a series of landscapes to bring with them as they set off on this new adventure. So while they embrace the future, they are still holding on to the gorgeous home where they built a house, built a family, built their dreams.

Witha veiw like this, I’m not surprised they want to take as much of it with them as possible:

One of the essentials in the brief was to capture the old railway line that runs through the base of their property

And just for fun, I got this shot of a delightful, free-spirited little two-year-old who holds a special place in my heart.

Not a traditional portrait, by far, but it is very “her”. I also did baby photos for this wild soul almost two year ago now, which I blogged here.

Dearest K, you will be greatly missed. I hope these images help to ease the transistion to your new home. You will be in our thoughts and prayers. Much love, Rxx

Warming Up Winter #2

August 26, 2009

Ok, so winter is almost gone, especially after the last few days. Seriously, 33degrees in August? Just crazy! But even though I’m running behind schedule, I’ve finally gotten around to posting my twice-in-a-row-so-we’ll-call-it-annual Warming Up Winter competition, a fun little exercise in review I started last year. I’ve picked five of my favourite images from the last 12-ish months, and I need your help to pick a winner! The client to whom the winning image belongs will receive that image as an 8×10inch print. And this year, just to change things up a bit, I’ll also pick a voter at random, to receive an 8×10inch print – either an image from a previous session, or from their next session with me.

So, on that note, the nominees are *drumroll*

From Ang and Jon’s beautiful wedding at Kings Plains Castle:

I just adore this image from a newborn session I shot in Glen Innes – a sleepy baby holding on tight to her mummy. Tender moments like this pull at my heartstrings.

I think it would be impossible to take a bad photo of this beautiful girl, who was a good sport & helped me kick off my year twelve/seniors sessions.

A delightful 1-week-old baby boy being watched over by his big sister, from a recent Inverell newborn session.
comp4

A very happy little 2-month-old baby – you wouldn’t guess we’d just spent twenty minutes trying to cinvince her to sleep, would you?

So that’s the five. I’ve leave the voting open until Friday, September 11, and then announce the winners sometime after that!

The fine print:
1. One vote per person.
2. Vote by leaving a comment saying which is your favourite image.
3. Voting open from now until midnight September 11.
4. Winning image will be printed as an 8×10inch print for the client to whom the image belongs.
5. One voter will be drawn at random to receive a voucher for an 8×10inch print, valid for all sessions booked before 31 December (to be held before March 31, unless prior arrangements have been made)
6. Voucher winner will be liable for all session fees and travel costs as normally apply.
7. Winner decided by popular vote, so post a link on your Facebook, tweet it, blog it, get the word out & get people voting for your image!
8. Good luck!

And we are up and running!

So I finally have the new blog/website up. If you encounter any problems, please let me know!

And just because a post isn’t a post without a picture

So I lied…

August 20, 2009

…when I said in my initial teaser post from Jon and Ang’s wedding, that one of those images was my favourite wedding image.

*This* one is my favourite, with a late aternoon glow, and the beautiful Kings Plains Castle in the background:

And I’m a bit partial to this one, from earlier in the day, when Ang’s dad came in while the girls were getting ready

Brand new.

August 10, 2009

One of the loveliest things about shooting a maternity session is the knowledge that I will soon get to meet and photograph a brand new little person. So I was just thrilled to hear from Megan that she had a brand new baby boy!

For someone who is supposed to sleep 23 hours a day, he was awfully awake!

Finally, in the comfort of mummy’s arms, he drifted off

(notice the new frames/watermarks? More about that later in the week!)
